Full of Color

Lessons for the Week:

This week is full of color. Each grade is working with color. The art curriculum allows scaffolding to take place so students are adding on to prior knowledge. He is a run down of the lessons.

Kindergarten- "I can use color"
We are studying Mondrian and learning about horizontal and vertical lines. We then colored in the spaces using our 3 favorite colors.

1st- "I can use and identify the primary colors"
We are studying Mondrian and how artists often borrow ideas. We are creating objects with Mondrian's famous design on it by using horizontal and vertical lines, as well as the primary colors.

2nd- "I can use and identify the secondary colors"
We studied how artist Wayne Thiebaud creates dessert art. We created our own dessert art by mixing primary colors to produce a secondary color. Our color mixing is displayed on our popsicles.

3rd- "I can use and identify warm and cool colors."
We studied the famous Japanese print The Great Wave off Kanagawa and created our own version by using warm and cool colors.

4th- "I can identify and create tints and shades"
We studied the art form Mandalas and created Mandalas that represented us. We then painted the negative space with tints and shades.

5th- "I can use and identify primary, secondary, intermediate, warm, and cool colors. I can create tints and shade and reproduce a value scale using paint"
We studied glass art by Dale Chihuly and we are producing our own relief sculpture using our knowledge of the color wheel, value scale, and tints and shades.
